The HDMI format provides a convenient method of transmitting high definition audio/video information through a single digital cable. When the cable and connectors' integrity are good, system performance is excellent. If the data is disrupted by weak or incomplete transfer, the HD experience suffers. More than just a simple cable checker, this signal tester identifies HDMI interconnection problems and helps correct them!

This device is not designed to check baluns or extenders, but rather just HDMI cables themselves. It would indicate that there is (or isn't) a problem in the signal path, but it is not capable of detecting specific defects with such ancillary items as baluns and/or extenders. You could certainly test your connections with, and then without any baluns and/or extenders. If the test showed problems with that device, but not without, then you could safely assume that the external item is the source of the problem.

Q: What does the RXC led refer to?
A: RXC refers to the Clock/Sync TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) line, where RX0, RX1, and RX2 refer to the Red, Green, and Blue TDMS lines, respectively. The TMDS Clock/Sync signal is carried on pins 10 (+) and 12 (-) of a standard HDMI cable

Q: What does CK, DA, and HPD stand for?
A:
CK stands for DDC Channel Serial Clock, DA stands for DDC Channel Data Line. The DDC channel allows the source device to read the data from the display to learn what formats the display supports. Most HDMI problems are a result of DDC errors. HPD stands for Hot Plug Detect, the display signals the source that it is connected and powered on.
