When it comes to connecting your video camera to a device, in order to connect it to your television or other digital device, you are generally given a few different connection options. One of these methods is known as a serial digital interface, or SDI. This is a coaxial cable used to send both audio and video technology across a single cable. Many cable and satellite providers utilize this kind of connection as it is easy to use and cheap to manufacture and purchase.
However, outside of a few devices, not vary many products use the HD-SDI connection method. Due to this, if you want to hook up your equipment, video devices or other services to a standard HD television or other hardware, you need to convert the SDI into a more recognizable port, such as HDMI. By using this HD-SDI to HDMI adapter, you are easily able to connect the SDI based device to your HD hardware. This HD-SDI to HDMI converter is a rectangle shaped device that sports the SDI input port on one side with an HDMI port on the other. This way, you can connect the two different devices together in an easy to use manor. For starters, connect the SDI cable to the "SDI Out" port on the device you wish to send the audio/video signal from.
Depending on the cable you are using you might have to screw it in in order to secure and tighten the cable. Many coaxial cables do have this screw feature as without it the cable does not always stay secure. Once intact plug the opposite end of the cable into the SDI port on the adapter. With the SDI cable secure, hook up the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the adapter, then plug it into the HDMI port on your television or other device. You can now turn on all hardware and adjust the input setting on your television to "HDMI," followed by the HDMI number of the port you are connected to. This way, you are now able to view and hear the information from the original device.
NOTE: HD-SDI to HDMI Adapter does not support 480p & 576p HDMI resolutions and the HD-SDI output resolution and frequency must be the same as HDMI input or you won't get a picture. For example, with an HD-SDI camera application, if your TV monitor does not support 1080p@25Hz or 1080p@30Hz, then the monitor will not display. Please adjust your HD-SDI camera output resolution to 1080i or 720p.
